About and licenses
Is This a Vector? is a free tool that tells you, in plain English, whether your logo or artwork is a true vector file that will print sharp at any size. It grades every file from A (true vector) to F (a plain picture) and explains what to do next.
Who made this
I’m Matthew McNamara. I own No Cold Feet Co., a sock company, and I built this checker for the artwork we work with there: logos and designs that arrive as “vector files” and aren’t always what they claim to be.
It turned out to be just as useful at my other business, Precision Colors, which sells refill inks for photo printers. Printing is the same story everywhere: a sharp result starts with the right file, and most people have no easy way to tell whether they have it. So I made the tool free for anyone to use.

How your files are handled
SVG, PDF, Illustrator, PNG and JPG files are checked entirely inside your web browser. They are never uploaded, and we never see them.
EPS files can only be fully checked by running them, so if you choose the full check, your EPS is sent to our server, converted, measured, and deleted right away. It is never stored or logged. If you choose the private check, it stays on your computer. The full details are in our privacy policy.
Open-source software
This site uses pdf.js by Mozilla (Apache License 2.0) to read PDF and Illustrator files.
The full EPS check uses Ghostscript by Artifex Software, licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3. We run the standard, unmodified release. Its source code is available from Artifex’s repository.
